It's no secret that female directors have been fighting an uphill battle in Hollywood for decades. Thankfully, that has been changing over the last few years with more and more female directors breaking onto the scene and making history! In 2019, Deborah Chow became the first female director to direct Star Wars live-action content with The Mandalorian. In 2021, Taylor Swift became a director with All Too Well: The Short Film, winning multiple awards and being shown at the Toronto Film Festival. Coming this year, Nia DaCosta will become the first black woman to direct a Marvel film with The Marvels, and these are only a fraction of the ground that female directors have broken in the last few years. In honor of these women and Women’s History Month, let's take a look at 10 amazing films directed by women.
